A 42.195-km course sanctioned by the Japan Association of Athletic Federations (JAAF)/Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS): starting at a point on the east side of Sapporo’s Nakajima Park (Hosui-dori) and finishing at Odori Park Nishi 8-chome (Kita-odori)

* The fee includes tax, accident insurance and a charitable donation to children who have been orphaned as a result of traffic accidents.
* Entrants are responsible for covering any handling charges related to payment methods.
* Free for escort runners for those with visual disabilities (up to four per runner)

Regulations

In accordance with the 2010 Regulations of the Japan Association of Athletics Federations and the Hokkaido Marathon

Eligibility

Runners, both men and women, must be at least 19 years of age on the race day and have records indicating completion of a full marathon within 5 hours or a half marathon within 2 hours 20 minutes since January 1, 2008. For those wishing to be deemed eligible using records from 10-km/10,000-m races, such records must be officially issued and indicate a finishing time of 31 minutes or under for men and 38 minutes or under for women.

Registration number Provide the number you filed or registered for FY 2010 with the athletic association to which you belong. Without this number, you will be registered as an ordinary runner.
If your registration is under processing and the number has not yet been officially issued, please indicate “Under processing” in the relevant column and contact the Entry Center as soon as the number is confirmed.
* Participation is not allowed with registration numbers for FY 2009.

Certificate of record Separately from the race entry, please submit a certificate of record (a photocopy of the original is acceptable) documenting the record time you provided upon application to the Entry Center by mail or fax (FAX: 03-3714-6427). If you fail to do so by the deadline, you will be regarded as an ordinary runner. For record times, please provide gross time. Once you submitted your record time, you are not allowed to change it, so please send a certificate of record that documents the same record time as that you provided upon application. To communicate changes in address, the registration number of those whose registration is under processing with the athletic association, and other matters, please contact the Entry Center by phone. Those applying with record times achieved at the marathon races listed below do not need to send a certificate of record as the Secretariat can confirm the details. Not requested.
Requirement for submission of a certificate of record is exempted for applicants with record times achieved at any of the following races:
Hokkaido Marathon, Lake Toya Marathon, Chitose JAL International Marathon, Shibetsu Half Marathon, Hakodate Half Marathon, Betsukai Pilot Marathon

Please provide your team name (up to seven characters) as filed or registered for FY 2010 with the athletic association to which you belong.
In the affiliation column, please provide your team name (up to seven characters).
If the organizer deems the name offensive to public order and morals, you may be asked to change it.
If this column is left blank, the name of your municipality will be considered as the name of your affiliation if you live in Hokkaido and the name of your prefecture will be considered as the name of your affiliation if you live outside Hokkaido.
(2) Individual entries
Please provide the name of the athletic association (up to seven characters) with which you have filed or registered for FY 2010 in the affiliation column.
* Entrants, both group and individual, who provide a team name different from the one officially filed or registered with the athletic associations to which they belong will be regarded as ordinary runners.
* Please note that the Secretariat will shorten entrants’ organization/affiliation names to fit within seven characters for administrative purposes.
* Abbreviations including “fund.,” “corp.,” “co.,” and “LLC” should not be used.
Other (1) Invited runners, domestic or overseas, must be recommended by the Japan Association of Athletic Federations and the organizer.
(2) Escort runners for those with visual disabilities must register according to the eligibility criteria described above and inform the Entry Center of their participation as an escort runner. Runners with visual disabilities are allowed up to four escort runners.
* The regulations of the Japan Blind Marathon Association (JBMA) shall be followed.

The Race

Bib numbers Bib numbers will be allotted according to the submitted record times (in the order of marathon, half marathon and 10-km/10,000-m races) for JAAF registrants and ordinary runners by gender.
Starting lining-up After the invited runners line up at the front, other entrants, both JAAF registrants and ordinary runners, will be lined up in the order of bib number irrespective of gender.
Those who are late for the designated assembly time will take a place at the end of the line.
Checkpoint closing times Checkpoint closing times will be set as shown in the table below. As traffic control will be lifted thereafter, athletes who are behind the closing time of each checkpoint may not continue the race.

Cut-off point To ensure the safety of runners and promote the smooth operation of traffic control release, three cut-off points will be set up as follows:
(1) The 13.5-km point (North 23-jo, West 13-chome)
Cut-off time: 1 hr. 40 min. after start (Clock time: 13:50)
(2) The 28.2-km point (Shinkawa-dori)
Cut-off time: 3 hr. 21 min. after start (Clock time: 15:31)
(3) The 41.6-km point (Hokkaido Government compound)
Cut-off time: 5 hr. after start (Clock time: 17:10)
Other (1) Distances will be displayed every kilometer throughout the course. In addition, the remaining distance will also be displayed every kilometer for the last 5 km.
(2) Athletes considered to be behind checkpoint closing times may be called to discontinue the race by the officials in charge.
(3) Runners who arrive at checkpoints after closure or who are called to discontinue the race should take off their bibs and board the accommodation bus at the accommodation checkpoint or the rearmost accommodation bus.
(4) In the event of an emergency such as an accident or a fire during the event, the course may be opened to emergency vehicles. In such cases, runners are requested to follow the instructions of the police, fire fighters and race officials.

Entry Acceptance

Entry Acceptance Certificate will be mailed to entrants whose participation is authorized in early July (scheduled).

Participation Prizes

A participation prize will be presented to all runners (prizes to be determined).

Awards

For the men’s and women’s races, the first- to eighth-placed runners will receive awards. In addition, rookie awards will be presented to two new runners (a male and a female) aged 25 or younger who have participated in a maximum of three full marathons, including this race.

Entry Guidelines

Entrants must agree to the guidelines described below before entry.


  1. Cancellation for personal reasons shall not be accepted after an application has been submitted. In case of overpayment or double payment, the overpaid amount shall not be refunded.
  2. In case of the marathon being cancelled or the number of permitted entrants reduced due to reasons beyond the control of the organizer, such as earthquakes, damage caused by wind or water, snowfalls, or any other incidents, accidents or epidemics, decisions regarding the refunding of entry fees or amount of refund shall be made by the organizer on a case-by-case basis according to the circumstances.
  3. I attest that I am free of any heart or other physical disorders, and that I have trained sufficiently for participation in this event.
  4. If the organizer concludes during the race that its continuation could cause problem, I agree to follow the organizer’s instruction to discontinue the race immediately, and also abide by the organizer’s instructions with regard to safety control and the marathon’s operation.
  5. In the event of an accident or illness occurring during the race, I agree to receive first-aid treatment, and shall not hold the organizer responsible for any post-treatment conditions that may occur due to the treatment method.
  6. I release the organizer from any liability, damages and all other claims concerning accidents, losses or injuries that may arise from the event.
  7. I agree that the scope of compensation for accidents, illness or injuries during the event shall be within the coverage of insurance provided by the organizer.
  8. My family, relatives, guardians (in case of application by a minor) or team members (in case of application by a representative) approve my participation in this marathon.
  9. I attest that I shall not make false declaration of records, such as age and gender, or employ a substitute runner (substitute running). If such a case is detected, I agree to abide by the decision of the organizer, such as the cancellation of entry/award and/or disqualification from future events. I also agree that the organizer shall not be held responsible for providing help for or refunding runners who made false declarations or employed substitute runners.
  10. I agree that any personal information, such as name, age, gender, records and images may be used in the marathon’s promotional materials such as videos, photographs, articles, records, etc. via newspapers, TV programs (including commercials), magazines, the Internet, pamphlets, etc. The right to reproduce and use such information is held by the organizer.
  11. With regard to the handling of personal information of marathon applicants, I agree to abide by the rules of the organizer, specified in a separate document.
  12. In addition to the aforementioned rules of this marathon, I also agree to abide by other precautions regarding the race, as stipulated separately by the organizer. (In the event of any inconsistency between the rules and precautions, the precautions regarding the race shall prevail.

Other

  1. Athletes who feel ill are required to undergo a medical examination at the registration desk the day before the race or at the Medical Headquarters located at the start line on the day of the race, and to follow the doctor’s instructions.
  2. Doping tests will be conducted on athletes randomly selected from among all participants in conformity with the IAAF Charter. Please follow the directions of officials in charge of the test.
  3. Requests for special drinks can be accepted only from men and women runners registered with the athletic association with high-rank record times provided.
  4. Athletes wearing outfits deemed inappropriate for the race or their health may be instructed to leave the race.
  5. Official certificates of record will be mailed at a later date to JAAF registrants who complete the race and wish to obtain such certification. Certificates of completion will be issued to all athletes who complete the race. JAAF-registered runners can request an official certificate of record at the finish area in Odori Park subject to a handling charge of 100 yen.
